Kaleidoscope

3:00 in the morning . She was still rolling on her bed , unable to sleep. Sigh! She surged from her bed , went to the study and picked up a novel. Hardly five minutes , she was unable to put her mind into what she was reading. Just not happening! She sneaked out of the house and went on a stooge. She felt something incomplete within her.. maybe her life.. she pondered.. But what was it? What was incomplete? A million times she asked herself .. but the answer was just silence. This tumult in her wasn’t allowing her to do anything peacefully. She was screaming her lungs out within her. But her milieu  was so much in peace. Ironical! At a distance, she could see a board swinging in the morning breeze, from the balcony of a house. She walked closer to it.  One side had the image of a bird and the other had the image of a cage. Aahn ,optical illusion! As the board began to swish in the wind, it appeared as though the bird was in the cage. She just  walked off. However that image lingered in her mind for quite a while. She imagined herself to be the bird and those burning questions in her mind to be the cage. She placed every problem of hers , one-by-one, like the iron bars of the cage. First she put forth this shiny polished bar- her social life. She hasn’t been able to be her happy self ever since she tried to evade from every single person with some lame excuses. She had to come up with false reasons and fake smiles every now and then. She wasn’t just her usual self. She was forever complaining and criticizing her friends . It eventually lead to this unrest in her life. Secondly , she placed this strong iron bar – her ambition. On  one hand, her ambition was soaring high in her dreams, in her conversations and on paper. But nothing came out in action. As on the other hand , she was refusing every opportunity that knocked her door. She was of this mad perception that anything that came her way was too below her standards and she deserved something way better for her caliber. She began giving lame reasons to refuse every offer. She was looking at everything through an inverted telescope. No wonder her  vision was big but everything else appeared small. These microscopic errors ,according to her, accumulated to form this big burning ball of innumerable questions in her mind.  She had walked so far , that she was standing at the shore. She was standing at the holy point where the three seas unite. She was standing not just at the tapering  tip of land , but also at the precipice of her life. A sudden splash of water hit her worried face , breaking the telescopic lens of hers, making her realize what all she had lost and what lay before her. She felt miserable.. She felt like a total failure. Her eyes were dwelling with tears.. her heart was heavy and her words were choking.  Behind her , she could hear the innocent voice of a little kid ‘that’s my doll! Don’t touch it!!’  It was all silent again. An elderly man walked past her with the kid . He asked the kid ‘What do you see here?’ The kid replied ‘Grandpa , the sea and the sky are meeting thereeeeeee.. and and.. I can see a half cirle at the end ‘ She giggled licking her candy.  ‘Kiddo, the earth is round and that’s why you can see half the cirle. That is why we see the sun everyday. Life is also like a cirle. You get what you give. If you give your dolls to your friends , they will do the same. If you fight with them, they will also fight. So always give the good! Go  and give the other candy to your friend. ‘
Those words ringed in her head like the church bell. So true, she mumbled. Now , she felt more insecure because all that she had given was hatred, denial and humiliation. So what would she get in return? The thought was horrifying. She didn’t know what to do.  As though the kid read her mind , she screamed in joy ‘ Papa , look ! Like my mam said , there is always a sun after the moon ‘ . She indeed picked up that subtle message.
P.S :  Optical illusions . Most of us get carried away by them. The cage and bird are on two different sides . What appears to us is just an illusion. Like wise , the problems in our lives and we are on two different sides of a coin called LIFE . We breakdown when that illusion happens – the illusion when you are inside the problem. When we look at the problem from the other side of the coin .. BANG ON ! We get the solution.  Life is not that complicated. Life is more like a kaleidoscope. It unveils it different colours depending on the angle that we see in.
So keep rotating your kaleidoscope-life , till you see the brightest of colours- happiness!!
Happy living !!!
